Welcome to Springbank Airport

The Springbank airport is located 10 kilometres west of Calgary City, slightly north of the Trans-Canada Highway #1. It is in the directly in the heart of Municipal District of Rocky View No. 44, and occupies approximately 420 hectares (1040 acres) of land. The airport is surrounded by mostly flat, agricultural land that slopes gently northward towards the Bow River. Springbank is conveniently located near suburban area of Calgary and many small towns like Bragg Creek and Cochrane. The Canadian federal government still maintains ownership of the Springbank Airport; however, all operations are contracted by lease to the Calgary Airport Authority.

COPA and the CBAA Support the CFS and CAP Amendments that Would Allow Jets in CYBW.

Rich Gage President and CEO of the CBAA and Kevin Psutka President of COPA have agreed to support the introduction of jet aircraft at the Springbank Airport. They have reviewed and approved of the proposed amendments to the CFS and CAP publications. SABPA contacted both groups on February 27th to campaign for their support. As usual COPA and CBAA response to our request was prompt and positively. The next step is for the Calgary Airport Authority (CAA) to present this information to Transport Canada and request that these amendments be made. SABPA has requested that the CAA issue a NOTAM with the proposed amendment as a temporary jet approval.

SABPA Still Waiting on the Calgary Airport Authority to Present a Draft of the CFS Jet Restrictions

It has been since December 13, 2006 when the directors of SABPA forwarded the association's position on the jet restriction to the Calgary Airport Authority (CAA) and we have had no response to our amendment request to date. SABPA has contacted Garth Atkinson the CAA President and CEO and requested the Calgary Airport Authority position with respect to our requested amendment and what steps have been taken to progress toward revising the CFS to allow jet aircraft to operate out of the Springbank Airport.
